Summer vacation is just around the corner — or for some, it’s already begun. The slow season! Will you sit back and relax, or will you use this time to optimize your recruitment process? We’ve got five tips to help you make the most of summer as a recruiter.

1. Make your job postings and ATS winter-ready

Is work quieter than usual? Are you getting fewer responses to your job postings? Are colleagues taking longer than usual to reply? This offers perspective. Huh, what? Yes, perspective. Because it gives you time for things you normally don’t get to. Optimize your job descriptions, analyze the funnels and metrics from your ATS, adjust postings that aren’t delivering the desired results, and clean up your talent pools. And we could go on. Sweep through everything so you can head into the fall feeling refreshed and organized.

2. Take advantage of your competitor’s holiday!

During the summer holidays, many candidates may be on vacation, but there are also plenty of potentials actively looking for a new job. Think of recent graduates, or people using the holiday period to find a new challenge. Are you offering these talents a springboard or a fresh start after their break? While your competitors are lounging on the Spanish coast, you can effortlessly fill your vacancies.

Entry-level candidates? They’re more than welcome with you. With the right ATS, you can select based on competencies rather than experience or CV alone.

3. Build talent pipelines with your ATS

Are you already using a well-functioning ATS? At Recrout, we offer an ATS with endless possibilities. This allows you to easily build pipelines. A pipeline is essentially just a talent pool. The term “pipeline” actually explains what it does: you can quickly and easily mark the stage of each candidate. Come across an interesting profile but don’t have time to reach out? Save the candidate in your pipeline and tag them as “contact later.” Or choose the tag “approached, no response yet.” This way, you build a strong talent pool for a later time. Sow in the summer to harvest later.

4. Use the summer to get familiar with a (new) ATS

Does your organization not yet use an ATS? Or is your ATS outdated? Use the summer period to try something new. And let’s be honest—new is exciting, but it can also be a bit daunting. Switching to a new process or system also takes time. That’s why the summer holiday period is the perfect opportunity. With many colleagues on vacation, you have extra time to tackle tasks like this.

5. Expand your network

You may be a bit less busy, and so are candidates and competitors! That’s why the summer period is the perfect time to build your network. Strike up casual conversations, attend networking events that are still happening, participate in online discussions on platforms like LinkedIn, or reconnect with former colleagues or classmates. It’s a great way to gain knowledge—and who knows, maybe even potential candidates for the future.

Have a great summer!

Are you seizing this opportunity to make the most of the summer holiday? Get started on optimizing your recruitment process—tidy space, tidy mind. After the break, you’ll fill those vacancies effortlessly. And in the meantime? Take a well-deserved break, cocktail in hand and feet in the sand. On behalf of Recrout, we wish you a wonderful holiday!
